Gawker growing out of teenage awkwardness gets rid of the porn

Nick Denton is a well known name in the blogging world and while he might have more than his fair share of derision tossed his way there is no denying that he is one smart honcho. His network of blogs are among some of the highest traffic blogs going in our new media world and is often looked to as the bell weather of the direction that blogging will take.

The Denton network consists of sites like Lifehacker, Gizmodo, Jezebel and Jalopnik all of which have made him a very wealthy man but there is one site in that network that doesn’t get talked about much but given its subject matter that really shouldn’t be too surprising.

You see among Denton’s Gawker network is the site called Fleshbot, and as its name might imply it is an “adult entertainment” site and while Denton never talks ‘real’ money when it comes to his properties you can be assured that even with rumored lackluster marketing support it was still making money.

Except now Denton has decided that it is time to cut the cord and find a buyer for the site and one has to wonder why. After all money is money, right?

Well that may be the case but one also wonders if the Fleshbot association might have been hurting potential marketing (or purchase) deals and finally what money it was generating didn’t equal the “cost” of keeping it around.

So if you happen to know anyone who might be in the market for a well run porn site you might want to point them in Denton’s way.
